Call Mr. Carrothers

Mr. Jonathan A. Carrothers is honored to serve as Director of Bands for Anchor Bay High School, of which he is a graduate. His primary instruments are trombone and piano. He enjoys performing on keyboard for musical productions, directing pit orchestras, and accompanying for musical rehearsals and vocal performances. Mr. Carrothers is a graduate of Michigan State University (B.M. Music Education, second major in Media and Information), and was involved in a variety of musical ensembles, including Concert Band, Symphony Band, Jazz Orchestra I, jazz combos, State Singers, the MSU Men's Glee Club (which included taking a tour to Europe), the trombone choir, Spartan Brass, and the Spartan Marching Band, in which he served as section leader his senior year.

Prior to joining the Anchor Bay School District, Mr. Carrothers worked in the Utica Community Schools at Eisenhower High School as Instrumental Music Director, instructing concert ensembles, the jazz ensemble, and the marching band, and participating in numerous MSBOA events. Before UCS, he worked in the Bronson Community Schools, teaching grades 6-12 band and choir. Teaching all secondary grades in band and choir allowed an incredibly valuable experience and perspective on the progression of a student through a music program.

Mr. Carrothers believes deeply in the philosophy of music experience being unparalleled in its benefits for ALL people. It deepens our bonds with one another, gives us a more in-depth appreciation of music that is all around us, heightens our creativity and attention to detail, teaches us skills that we use in everyday life (work ethic, timeliness, collaboration, and goal-setting to name a few), and allows an emotional outlet that is healing for performer and audience member alike. He is excited to join the incredible team with the Anchor Bay Bands!
